- Trust felt it
was not getting maximum value from the use of ESR but could not
understand where improvements were needed. An ESR Assessment and
health check was conducted which reviewed the current working
practices, use of ESR, how ESR is being interfaced with other systems.
The final report detailed over 30 recommendations for action,
many of which were quick wins with no requirement for additional
resources. Other recommendations were for specific projects to be
commissioned which involved work-structures remapping, development of
business intelligence (BI) dashboards and OLM enhancements. The
overall result was an improvement in the way Trust could report on its
workforce. A robust process of monitoring and maintaining
training compliance was achieved.
- Mandatory
Training reporting was originally completed using attendance figures
from the basic use of OLM. The project was to introduce enhanced
compliance reporting based on staff failing to meet their training
needs. Action was agreed to use local competencies and change
working practices. Part of this work was to define the training
requirements for staff by position and understand which courses
satisfied the needs. The results were a full set of compliance
reports showing all staff where training was out of date or not
undertaken. This information was summarised for Board,
Commissioners and Managers. The overall result was an increase in
the Trust's confidence in being able to increase organisational
compliance in the critical areas and meet NHSLA and CQC standards. Work
completed in an Acute Hospital
- Mandatory
Training reporting was reported using attendance figures from the
training admin spreadsheets. The project was to implement OLM and
introduce negative reporting based on staff failing to meet their
training needs. Requirements also driven by CQUIN and Board
reporting requirements. Action was agreed to implement OLM and use
local competencies. Part of this work was to define the training
requirements for staff by position and understand which courses
satisfied the needs. The results were a full set of positive and
negative reports showing all staff where training was out of date or
not undertaken. A workbook was created to ease the detailed and
complex reporting which enabled information to be summarised for Board,
Commissioners and Managers. The overall result was an increase in
organisational compliance in the critical areas. Work
completed in a Community Provider organisation.
- Mandatory
training compliance was unclear across the two VPDs that form the total
workforce. Work previously recommended by Change Solutions UK
some months previous had been completed which enabled the project to
progress at speed. The requirement defined the need to be able to
report at various levels in the organisation and by specific groups
(cost centres). An excel workbook was created to utilise a single
report from OLM to enable the presentation of the required
information. Action was taken to tighten the processes supporting
the reporting and requirements were defined by staff group/role.
The finished product was a complex workbook that can be operated by the
local Trust from a single report taken from OLM. The reporting
was used in an NHSLA review and a summary presented to the Board.
Work completed in an Ambulance Trust.
- The organisation was failing to
achieve the RA5 standard and prioritise the benefits from ESR.
The brief was given to achieve the standard and review/recommend a
benefits realisation plan. The plan delivered across the full product
which included improved data quality and data processes, organisational
alignment with financial establishment, financial ledger and payroll
(VPD) split, enhanced reporting in all areas. Self-service to all
staff was deployed and e-learning was delivered. The outcome was
to prepare the organisation for independence and being able maximise
the benefits from ESR. The OLM project delivered the ability to
demonstrate compliance across all areas of statutory and mandatory
training. Work
completed in a Community Provider organisation.
